Hazards

Reports of Carcinogenicity:NTP:NO IARC:NO OSHA:NO
Health Hazards Acute and Chronic:THIS PRODUCT IS AN ASPHYXIANT. SIMPLE
ASPHYXIANTS ACT BY DISPLACING OXYGEN IN THE LUNGS THEREBY
DIMINISHING THE SUPPLY OF OXYGEN AVAILABLE TO THE BLOOD & TISSUES.
CONTINUED LACK OF OXYGEN MAY RESULT I N CONVULSIONS, LOSS OF
CONSCIOUSNESS & DEATH. IN ADDITION, EXPOSURE TO THIS PRODUCT MAY
CAUSE A GENERAL CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM (CNS) DEPRESSION TYPICAL OF
ANESTHETIC GASES OR INTOXICANTS. CAN CAUSE IR RITATION OR FREEZE
BURNS IF CONTACT WITH COMPRESSED LIQUID OCCURS.
Effects of Overexposure:RESPIRATORY IRRITATION, DIZZINESS, NAUSEA &
LOSS OF CONSCIOUSNESS. POSSIBLE IRRITATION OR FREEZE BURNS.

First Aid

First Aid:EYE: FLUSH THOROUGHLY W/ WATER. IF IRRITATION OCCURS, CALL A
PHYSICIAN. SKIN: IF FROSTBITE OCCURS, IMMERSE INVOLVED AREA IN WARM
WATER (BETWEEN 100F/38C & 110F/43C, NOT EXCEEDING 112F/44C). KEEP
IMMER SED FOR 20- 40 MINUTES. SEEK MEDICAL ASSISTANCE. INHALATION:
IMMEDIATELY REMOVE FROM FURTHER EXPOSURE. GET IMMEDIATE MEDICAL
ASSISTANCE. FOR THOSE PROVIDING ASSISTANCE, AVOID EXPOSURE TO
YOURSELF OR O THERS. USE ADEQUATE RESPIRATORY PROTECTION. GIVE
SUPPLEMENTAL OXYGEN, IF AVAILABLE. IF BREATHING HAS STOPPED, ASSIST
VENTILATION WITH A BAG-VALVE-MASK DEVICE OR USE MOUTH-TO- MOUTH
RESUSCITATION. INGE STION: NOT EXPECTED TO BE A PROBLEM.

Fire Fighting

Flash Point Method:PMCC
Flash Point:<-40.C, -40.F
Lower Limits:2.0%
Upper Limits:9.5%
Extinguishing Media:CARBON DIOXIDE, FOAM, DRY CHEMICAL AND WATER FOG.
Fire Fighting Procedures:EVACUATE AREA DOWNWIND OF FIRE. STOP FLOW OF
MATERIAL. USE WATER TO KEEP FIRE EXPOSED CONTAINERS COOL & TO
PROTECT PERSONNEL EFFECTING SHUTOFF. IF A LEAK OR SPILL HAS NOT
IGNITED USE WATER SPRAY TO DI SPERSE THE VAPORS & TO PROTECT
PERSONNEL ATTEMPTING TO STOP LEAK.
Unusual Fire/Explosion Hazard:EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE. VAPOR ACCUMULATION
COULD FLASH AND/OR EXPLODE IF IN CONTACT WITH OPEN FLAME.
PRESSURIZED CONTAINERS MAY EXPLODE IF EXPOSED TO OPEN FLAMES OR
HIGH TEMPERATURES. HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSI TION PRODUCTS: CARBON
MONOXIDE.

Accidental Release

Spill Release Procedures:STOP FLOW OF GAS. EVAPORATE TO ATMOSPHERE AND
USE WATER SPRAY TO DILUTE VAPOR CLOUD. EVACUATE AREA. ELIMINATE ALL
IGNITION SOURCES. REMOVE LEAKING CONTAINERS TO DETACHED AREA.
PREVENT SPILLS FROM ENTE RING STORM SEWERS OR DRAINS AND CONTACT
WITH SOIL. REPORT SPILLS AS REQUIRED TO APPROPRIATE AUTHORITIES.

Handling

Handling and Storage Precautions:AVOID ALL PERSONAL CONTACT. CAN CAUSE
IRRITATION OR FREEZE BURNS IF CONTACT WITH COMPRESSED LIQUID
OCCURS. ETHYL MERCAPTAN IS ADDED TO GAS AS AN ODORANT TO AID IN THE
DETECTION OF THE GAS IN CASE OF L EAK OR ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGE.
Other Precautions:SINCE ETHYL MERCAPTAN IS REACTIVE, A REDUCTION IN ITS
EFFECTIVENESS MAY OCCUR DURING SHIPPING & STORAGE OF THE ODORIZED
GAS. THEREFORE, ODOR MUST NOT BE USED EXCLUSIVELY AS A SAFETY
MEASURE. HANDLE GA S WITH STRICT ADHERENCE TO ESTABLISHED SAFETY
PROCEDURES. USE IN WELL-VENTILATED AREA AWAY FROM ALL IGNITION
SOURCES.

Exposure Controls

Respiratory Protection:USE SUPPLIED AIR BREATHING APPARATUS IN OXYGEN
DEFICIENT ATMOSPHERES, OR IF PETROLEUM GAS CONCENTRATION EXCEEDS
2%.I
Ventilation:USE IN WELL VENTILATED AREA. VENTILATION REQUIRED AND
EQUIPMENT MUST BE EXPLOSION PROOF. USE AWAY FROM ALL IGNITION
SOURCES.
Protective Gloves:NO SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS UNDER ORDINARY CONDITIONS OF
USE.
Eye Protection:NO SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS UNDER ORDINARY CONDITIONS OF
USE.
Other Protective Equipment:EYE PROTECTION: CHEMICAL-TYPE GOGGLES & FACE
SHIELD SHOULD BE WORN IF CONTACT WITH LIQUID MAY OCCUR. SKIN
PROTECTION:THERMALLY PROTECTIVE GLOVES MUST BE WORN WHEN HANDLING
LIQUID.
